TRACK TWO inclues
the following options:
AWARENESS
OPTION
Modules
1 - 6 (4 hours)
Individuals
who will initiate emergency response actions by notifying the
proper authorities, but will take no further action should attend
this training. this course provides radiological information for
persons trained at the First Responder Awareness level. Information
covered in this option includes a general overview of ionizing
radiation; how ionizing radiation affects the body; how to identify
radioactive material in transportation; and the initial response
actions to be used at the scene of an incident involving radioactive
material.
OPERATIONS
LEVEL OPTION
Modules 1 -
12 (8 hours)
Individuals who need to be prepared to take necessary defensive
actions to protect people, property, and the environment at a
radioactive material incident scene should attend this training.
This option provides radiological information for persons trained
at the First Responder Operations level. Information covered in
this course includes the types of packages used to transport radioactive
material; how to handle potentially contaminated patients; and
contamination reduction methods. Completion of this option meets
the requirement of Waste Acceptance Criteria for Waste
Isolation Pilot Plan (WIPP) emergency responses.
TECHNICIAN
LEVEL OPTION
Modules 1 -
21 (16 hours)
Advanced level responders from Hazardous Materials Response Teams
and individuals who are responsible for radiological assessments,
including radiation measurements, contamination contro,l and offensive
measures should attend this training. This option provides radiological
information for persons trained at the Hazardous Materials Technician
and Specialist level. Information covered in this course includes
the four basic types of ionizing radiation and radilogical terminology;
use of radiological survey instrumentation; radiation levels and
associated information contained on radiation warning labels;
contaminations and exposure control and reduction techniques;
decontamination methods. This option also includes a hands-on
practical exercise using radiological instrumentation. NOTE:Annual
refresher training is required for persons trained at this level.
RADIOLOGICAL SURVEY
INSTRUMENT OPERATIONS OPTION
Instrument Operations and Practical Exercise
(4 hours)
Hazardous Material Technician level responders will review procedures
and operations of radiological survey instruments. Participants
will also complete hands-on practical exercises to demonstrate
knowledge in survey techniques, patient handling, contamination
control practices, and shipping package assessment.
HOSPITAL EMERGENCY
STAFF PERSONNEL OPTION
Hospital Course ( 4 hours)
Hospital emergency department personnel who
may be required to provide care to patients involved in a radioactive
material incident should attend this training. This course is
designed to prepare personnel to analyze radiological situations;
assess patient conditions and problems; initiate patient care
and decontamination; take necessary steps to ensure medical provider
safety; and identify appropriate resources for the continuation
of care and decontamination.
